Please read the disclaimer . Banyan Group The Great Mystery part 2 Undervalued land bank is being monetised  Conservative accounting  Supercharged earnings I have been reading up more on Banyan after my recent purchase. There are a couple of things that come to my attention after going through their latest annual report. The management in an Edge article dated late 2024 mentions the Phuket land is worth USD $4b to $5b. I have decided to do an investigation on their accounting methodology and balance sheet. You can read part 1 here. I dig further into the accounting rules of Banyan Group. The company kept the land using the cost accounting model. I assumed land bought many years ago is still kept at initial cost minus depreciation. From the screenshot. (Source: Banyan Group annual report ...

Wolf Review/Wolf Bargain(Bargain Hunter, Easy Hacks and Tips to Save Oney Every Day by Kara Gammell)

Image
(Contents) It has been a while since I last wrote an article on Wolf Review and Wolf Bargain. Today I will combine both into one concise article. Kara Gammell , the author, is also a personal finance expert. Her column in the Metro newspaper is well followed by many readers in the UK. If one has a revenue problem, it is time to tackle the cost side of things. If one can’t make more, minimally, look at the spending. This book The   Bargain Hunter  teaches practical and innovative hacks on saving money. Some of which I have not even thought of. The book was written for the UK audience, but some money-saving tips are universal. It is applicable anywhere. The author segregated the book into 6 main chapters where one can save money in Home & Household, Work & Finances, Family, Leisure, Personal and Travel. I will be able to give some examples in a local context. Home & Household 1.) Water and electricity bills  Both items took away a big chunk of household e...

Wolf Money(Thai Beverage PLC)

Image
The below article is for educational purpose only. Kindly refrain from taking any action. It shouldn’t constitute as an investment advice. Please read the disclaimer . I have decided to get sober on Thai Beverage. The stock performance is poor given STI had just broken our all time high and ThaiBev struggling at near 13-year low. The stock is down close to 15% for the year. I am expecting maybe a quarter or two of poor results to continue due to economic woes in Thailand as weak consumption affecting sales.  The conclusion of trade deal between US-Vietnam will help ThaiBev given Vietnam is their second largest market after Thailand. Lower input cost will have a positive impact on margins. With the rising positive sentiment in the Singapore market. The revival of a Beerco or Spiritco listing can’t be ruled out. I think the odds are favourable at current level. They own Vinamilk, the biggest dairy company in Vietnam, Sabeco, the largest beer company in Vietnam and Fraser and N...

(Image credit: Mandai Rainforest Resort by Banyan Tree) Lone Wolf Fund(LWF) Portfolio as at end of June 2025 1.) Cash 2.) Banyan Group 3.)  ComfortDelGro Corporation   *Stocks are not rank in accordance to capital invested .  *Just for sharing. Not an inducement to buy or sell . Commentary The US strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities has pushed the war in the Middle East across the rubicon. Further involvement by the US is likely to meet with Russian and Chinese resistance. I suspect both countries will be providing undercover support for Iran, which is part of BRICS grouping. Oil prices rising above 100 bucks will push the fragile world economy into recession. If there is an expanded war in the Middle East. More wealthy Middle Eastern refugees will seek shelter in other parts of the world. The best solution for peace is for all the leaders who are in favour of wars to be gathered in a Vatican-style conclave under locks and keys until a solution is found. This is your silly...

(Source: MAS) The current issue, not surprisingly, undersubscribed by 20% due to the low yield and the school holiday. The yield for next month SSBs is unlikely to get better. I do expect the yield to be similar or lower than current level. Please consider following us on telegram for the latest update on Lone Wolf investor by clicking on the link below. Wolf Money(portfolio update end June 2025)part 1

(Headline credit: Business Times) Real Tale(Retail) June was a good break for me. Our family has decided to stay put in Singapore. It is a rare occasion to be in Singapore during the school holiday. We have been traveling frequently for the last 2 years. We were contemplating of going to Osaka, but I was deterred by the huge crowd going to the World Expo exhibition held in the city. Osaka on any given day, is a very popular city, well liked by many. With the World Expo attracting another 28 million into the city over the next 6 months, the streets are going to be filled with tourists from all over the globe.  The break gave me the opportunity to touch base with old friends and some new ones too. I have many friends in different industries which give me a broad understanding of the challenges and opportunities operating in their trade. Many of them are in f&b and retail business. Friends in retail/f&b had one thing in common. Almost all lamented about the weak busines...
