Commentary   The general mood of our local market was one of weakness in May due to on going uncertainty about US Congress ability to pass the bill for debt ceiling hike. A default on debt obligation by the US government is akin to an economic Maguire scoring an own goal coined by a Ghanaian MP. On local front, a few companies caught my attention for various reasons. SingPost warning about the lack of profitability for its domestic mail business. I hope it is not a prelude in asking the tax payers to carry the unprofitable baby. I hope not to see another “SPHing” happening in SingPost. It will be troubling if unprofitable business are nationalised under the cover of public good. Private profit, public loss a

(Image credit : Yale insight) Meritocracy The word “Meritocracy” came from a combine of Latin word for Merit meaning “Mereo”, “I earned” and cracy in Ancient Greek suffix “Kratia” mean “power or rule”. Combine it together it mean “I earned the right to rule” . The subject had been the focal point of the government recently. My commentary might not sit well for some but they are my general observation, no malice in my commentary. Since our independence in 1965. We have set out on a course to be a meritocracy society. I give my government credits for closing the gap of the have and have not through education over the past 58 years. In recent years, at least in my impression, the door of meritocracy has been closing slowly due to a few factors. Education We were told all schools are created equally and all schools are good school. On infrastructure wise I have no disagreement but the brain and culture behind every schools are different. If all teachers and students are created equally w

Wolf Money(Singapore Savings Bonds June 2023 review)

SSBs for June 2023 carry the flattest yield for any SSBs. First year yield is at 2.81%. On the 10th year, yield is at 2.82%. The flat yield curve is indicative of a slowing economy in Singapore. The current Singapore 10 years bond yield is less than 2.8%. If it continue, SSBs average yield for July issue will be lower. The closing date for this month SSBs fall on 26 May @9pm. I probably skip this month issue. June issue is likely to be under subscribed.  Please consider follow us on telegram for the latest update on Lone Wolf investor by clicking on the link below. Wolf Money(100th Birth Anniversary of Mr Lee Kuan Yew Commemorative Coin)

(Image source MAS website) (Image source MAS website) (Image source MAS website Beautifully design coin) (Legal tender with face value of $10) Monetary Authority of Singapore is issuing a coin to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of our founding Prime Minister, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew. The coin is legal tender and has a face value of $10. The coin makes an excellent return on investment with no downside risk given it is legal tender at $10. I speculate it might sell above face value on secondary market. Each coin will be sold at $10. There is a limit of maximum 5 coins per person. Each will be given at least 1 coin per application with 2 coins or more subject to balloting. Only Singaporean and PR need to apply. Non Singaporean have to wait for general exchange at banks if there are any uncollected coins. Closing date is on the 9th of June 2023. More detail and application form can be found at MAS website below.  https://www.mas.gov.sg/news/media-releases/2023/$10-coin-to-commemorate-t
