Not an inducement to buy or sell . Commentary  Now and 2024 The market in 2023 had not been easy due to where I choose to “fish”. The high borrowing rate and high inflation had an impact on the profitability of local companies. The difficulty was compounded by poor sentiment in our market. I share the same frustration with many local investors, our market is sick. The patient needs to be treated. There will be no miracle cure if the exchange and policymakers leave the stock market on its own. Our market abysmal performance stands in stark contrast to Wall Street’s bullish rally. Driven by the rebound in tech, S&P and Nasdaq had a field day(year). Each index showed a high historical double digit gain in 2023 after the carnage in 2022. For y

Wolf Money(Singapore Savings Bonds Jan 2024 review plus interest rate outlook)

(Credit Sony Pictures; This is your Captain Phillips speaking, we are under attack from the Houthi) The huge drop in Jan SSB’s yield came as a shock to me. If this is not shocking enough, I have more shocking news for you. Feb 2024 SSB’s yield will be missing its 3 handle, not even 2.9%, more likely between the range of 2.7-2.8% base on the lower yield seen on 10 years SGS bonds. The drop in SSB’s yield was substantial given the recent Dec issue(last month) was 3.4%. This month SSBs will be hotly pursued by yield-hungry savers. The closing date for this month SSBs fall on the 26th Dec. Good luck. The reason for the falling SSB’s yield was due to the Federal Reserve changing their interest rate outlook. The market is expecting more than three cuts to the Fed fund in 2024. In my opinion, the market might have overreacted. As a market pundit, I am estimating the Fed fund to come in around 4.75% at the end of 2024 which is two 2nd half cuts.  The recent attack by the Houthi on commercial

Wolf Bargain(Ho Chi Minh City)part 2

Given the strong Singapore dollars, there is never a better time to travel for an overseas holiday. Ho Chi Minh City, a 2 hours flight from Singapore represents an excellent value for money proposition for a quick getaway.  Here are my top five Wolf Bargains in HCMC.  Grab Ride hailing service in Vietnam is dominated by Grab. One could travel to different parts of Ho Chi Minh City within District 1 for less than 60,000 VND or $3.3 SGD per ride. Each Grab Bike ride is half the price of a Grab car. Grab Ride hailing service helps act as a bridge for the lack of public transport options within the city. The speed of service is good. Ho Chi Minh City will be opening their first metro line in 2024, finally, after a 12 years construction. It will make traveling within the city much more convenient. (GRAB dominates the Ride Hailing industry in HCMC) MCDONALD’s If you are traveling with diet picky kids. Having a few McDonald’s outlets near your hotel at your disposal can save your trip. A Fi

Wolf Money(Vietnam)part 1

(Vietnam’s Legendary Revolutionary Leader, Ho Chi Minh) (The beautiful 5 stars Rex Hotel at downtown, HCMC) Hello or Xin Chào in Vietnamese. For the past week, I went on a trip to the former Capital City of South Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City also known as Saigon. (Ho Chi Minh City Hall, A French inspired architecture) I have written a few commentaries about Vietnam in my blog on several occasions due to my investment in Boustead Singapore and Valuetronics. Both companies have a strong presence in the country. There are so many good things to talk about Vietnam, I can almost pass off as an unofficial influencer for the Vietnam economic promotion board. During my trip to Ho Chi Minh City, I can sense a new dawn for this awakening mini-dragon. The country gives me the same kind of vibes which I had on my trip to China in the early 2000s, just before China’s powerful growth in the next decade. If China had done so well by opening its economic doors, Vietnam could potentially be like China o
