Commentary   It had been a while since I felt the butterflies in my stomach. There are plenty of mixed emotions at play. I would be lying if I told you I am not chuffed by the recent falling market. Finally value had arrived for a proper bargain hunt. On the other hand, it felt like déjà vu, the ghost of GFC had returned.  (My Trading desk) I was a young broker then at the height of GFC panic which was bought on by the near collapsed of AIG, of course some may argued Bear Stearns collapsed was the armageddon of GFC ,to me Bears Stearns failure was only an appetizer of what was to come during GFC. Telephones were ringing non stop. Some clients even called, asking what should they do with their AIA policies unfortunately I am i

Wolf Bargain(Yakult Singapore factory tour)

Image
(Giant monument greets the visitor) Last week I had an opportunity to visit Yakult Factory. My son, a big fan of their beverage was very much looking forward to this free tour. They had recently reopened their factory tour after a 3 years break. The factory tour is quite an eye opener.  (The cutesy Mr. Yakult) The tour was conducted by Mr. Yap from Yakult. He did a half an hour presentation on the company history, products and the health benefits of drinking Yakult. Yakult first set up its factory in Singapore under a joint venture with Cerebos Pacific(used to be one of my favourite listed company in sgx) in 1979. In 2003, the parent company had decided to buy over Cerebos stake in Yakult to make it a wholly owned subsidiary. (The legendary doctor who discovered L.Casei Shirota) (Close to 90 years of history) I am mightily impressed with the explanation on area which lactobacillus casei shirota(a good bacteria named after Dr. Shirota) can help digestion and improve bowel movement.     The yield on Nov 2022 SSB will be the highest since the launch of SSB. A decent 3.08% interest on the first year await holders of the bond. Average yield for 10 years came in at 3.21%.  I am expecting competition to be strong. Likely within the ballpark of 8k-13k per applicants applying above that amount. The yield on SSBs for the next two months issues are likely to show an upward trend in yield. If one can’t get the desire amount, just do a SSBs stacking. A continuous investment into SSBs for a minimum 6 months will give holders a perpetual income every month for 10 years.(Yield are paid semi annually) Closing date for application will be on the 26th Oct 2022 at 9pm. Good luck 🤞. Wolf Money(My 2c worth on the market)short summary

(It is always the darkest at dawn before sunrise) I have been observing the market more closely than ever because stocks had never been so cheap since 2020. Some stocks had even gone below covid era valuation.  I have been more active in the market in recent days buying some dividend plays. They are what I consider building block of any portfolio. The current risk free in Singapore is around 3.5%. Given the higher risk free, it will only made sense to buy into companies which pay at least 6% or just slightly below that level but not much lower at current juncture. Buying into net cash companies give a higher visibility in term of dividend payout. Another matrix I lookout for is the payout ratio and sustainability of earning. If a company is paying 100% out of earning, it runs the risk of a dividend cut due to poor earning. If our local risk free rate jumped to 4 percent, a company with a minimum of 6.5% dividend yield will be considered desirable. Good dividend paying companies can g

Wolf Bargain(Teh Halia Vs Teh Halia)

Image
The wonderful feeling about having Teh(Tea) in Kampung Glam, one can take in the sight and sound and the historical vibes associated to Kampung Glam. The area is always buzzing with activities. Tourists and locals fill the street day and night. The enclave has become a popular hangout for modern day hipsters. From Haji Lane to Arab Street to Bussorah Street there are plenty of new to market f&b concepts and artisan stores selling one of a kind. Having some Teh(Tea) while doing some people watching is a great way to spend a lazy afternoon. The wet weather over the past couple of days made me look forward to having a cup of hot Teh Halia(Ginger Milk Tea) to warm my stomach. Today shoot out involved two Sarbat stalls operating in Kampung Glam enclave. One traditional, the other with a modern twist.  (The unmistaken green facade of Bhai Sarbat) (Small bites to go with your tea) (No frills cup with plenty of goodness) Bhai Sarbat   A well known establishment since 1977.
