Wolf Bargain(Teh Halia Vs Teh Halia)
The wonderful feeling about having Teh(Tea) in Kampung Glam, one can take in the sight and sound and the historical vibes associated to Kampung Glam. The area is always buzzing with activities. Tourists and locals fill the street day and night. The enclave has become a popular hangout for modern day hipsters. From Haji Lane to Arab Street to Bussorah Street there are plenty of new to market f&b concepts and artisan stores selling one of a kind.
Having some Teh(Tea) while doing some people watching is a great way to spend a lazy afternoon. The wet weather over the past couple of days made me look forward to having a cup of hot Teh Halia(Ginger Milk Tea) to warm my stomach. Today shoot out involved two Sarbat stalls operating in Kampung Glam enclave. One traditional, the other with a modern twist.

Bhai Sarbat
A well known establishment since 1977. Bhai Sarbat is an institution in its own right. Nestled in the heart of Kampung Glam, the current owner, Mohammad Asgar took over the running of the business from his late Uncle hoping to continue his legacy. They are heavily featured in numerous STB and tourist travel guide. I ordered a Teh Halia(Ginger Milk Tea). The spiciness of the ginger pack a punch. The tea is light and one shouldn’t had any problem chugging down a big cup. There are some knick knack available to go with the tea. Almond biscuit is my favourite. A cup cost of Teh Halia cost $1.80
Tarik
I am pretty impressed by aircrews and their enterprising f&b idea. Tarik was the brain child of Flight Steward, Ali Sheikh Redha. The idea of a modern Sarbat Tea Stall came during the period of covid 19 when he was grounded due to Covid travel restrictions. My previously recommendation of Whisking Bakes was another brilliant idea by Chanel Lee, another aircrew. Since it is a shoot out, it will only be fair if I ordered the same drink, another Teh Halia. The owner put in effort into branding. The “Tarik” brand feature promptly on the paper cup. The initial concept is a hole in the wall, they had since moved to a bigger shop. The spiciness of the ginger pack a punch too. The tea is thick and milky. I find their Teh Halia unique. I can’t pinpoint the spice in the Teh beside ginger. I like their tea, perfect for people looking for a stiff drink. There are other innovative drinks you can ordered. A cup of Teh Halia cost $2.30.
(I have no idea what the Arabic word mean, I just find the Neo light stunning)
The winner goes to....drum roll...me. I had two wonderful version of Teh Halia. Do check them out at Baghdad Street and Arab Street respectively. If I can only have my last two cups of Teh Halia, they will be my top two choices. No doubt about it. Pure goodness, Teh Halia for the soul. Period.
