With Nasdaq and tech stocks starting the month with some heavy correction. STI was not spare from the volatility. By middle of May our index was close to 7 percent down from April due to confluence of negative factors arising from weakness in US market and our government reimposing a partial lockdown due to surging covid-19 cases. It caused STI to drop quickly as the market participants reassess economic and market risks associating to the partial lockdown. A big crash in cryptocurrency occurred in May. At the lowest point bitcoin was down 40 percent from its high. In general cryptocurrency had a bad month. US market recovered towards the later

“Robert Kuok A Memoir” is definitely worth reading. He is the richest man in Malaysia. He has an empire of businesses under his stewardship. From Shangri la hotels to Wilmar international holdings. From sugar trade to palm oil. He is one of the most legendary Chinese businessman born out of the 20th century. This book should be recommended as a case study for any top business school. I had the book for a couple of years until I decided to finish up reading the last few chapters recently . I am also grateful to have gotten to know this book through a friend which unfortunately had since pass on. Thank you Mr. Chiang.  The book wrote about his business dealings and the difficulties he faced during his initial year of setting up Kuok Brother company. There are chapters that talk about his personal relationship with key personal in his life. There is also a chapter that wrote about his business dealing in China. He always felt China is his mother land. There was a time in China history w

Disclaimer first, I usually don’t comment on things that I had so little knowledge about but cryptocurrency trading is raging which warrant a word of caution. Below are some points one need to think through if one is buying cryptocurrency for investment, not speculating. I am not a big fan of all form of speculative trading. More than 90 percent of the people who trade actively lose money over a run of 5 years and beyond. That subject will be for another day.  Back to Cryptocurrency investing, one need to consider the recent developments in the cryptocurrency market. 1.) China banned all form of crypto related business including crypto mining. Financial institutions are not allow to conduct any form of business relating to cryptocurrency. 2.) US will be coming out with regulations for transfer that involved more than 10k worth in crypto to stamp out illegal activities like money laundering and tax evasion. New cryptocurrency traders might be subjected to identification registration. Th

As we approach another sort of lockdown or partial lockdown in Singapore or phase 2 “Heightened Alert”as what the politicians coined due to high covid 19 infections (I just love how the politicians play with the English Language). “Circuit breaker” has been officially relegated into the history text books 😁. There is plenty of time for anyone to pick up a book to read next month. “Your Money Your Investment” by Dr. Ben Fok is a collection of past articles from Straits Times, Business Times and Sunday Times. Dr. Ben Fok talks about a wide range of topics from financial planning tips to understanding investment fundamentals. He also discussed  how to bullet proof your investment portfolio. Good mix of topics from insurances, investments and financial planning.  Articles are easy to read and digest. Some articles are outdated but concept still apply. It is a good book for someone just starting their investment and financial planning journey. The book goes onto the recommended list of L

About The Courtyard Cafe is situated inside the former Supreme Court historical building. The cafe is lively with a lot of natural light. Cafe is fill with soft jazz music playing behind the background. This post is for the curry chicken lover out there. (Curry Chicken set with Kopi O) Taste This curry chicken is the best I have tasted so far. The chicken drumstick is huge. The meat is soft and tender. The curry has a right mix of taste and flavour. The curry is thicken with coconut without overpowering the taste buds. The curry is cooked with potato, long bean and beancurd puff. The curry is mildly spicy. It’s goes very well with jasmine rice. To me, it is a proper man meal.  The deal Courtyard cafe is running a set lunch promotion till end of the year. Visitor with a National Gallery Singapore ticket stub can have a bowl of curry chicken plus rice and a choice of hot coffee or tea for only $10 nett.
