Wolf Bargain(book recommendation)

(Topics galore)

Money Smart written by ex Straits Time financial journalist Lorna Tan is what I consider a cheat sheet to get up to speed with your personal finance. The book cover a range of topics from financial, insurance, investment, retirement, legacy, tax planning. If you have only time for just one book to get up to speed with your personal finance, this is the book. The book is a collection of past Straits Time Invest articles listed on Sunday Times(great for people who don’t read newspaper including myself 😁) It is concise and well articulated. Graphics and charts are clear and easy to understand. I particularly like the section on CPF. CPF rule had been changing in recent times. It is hard to keep track with every rule change. The subject on how to maximise your cpf and cpf payout is well documented in the book. For e.g just by extending your cpf payout date from 65 years to 70 years, it give you an extra 35% more moolah per month from age 70. With cash earning close to zero interest. Extending CPF payout age during retirement does make a lot of sense if one had other cash lying around earning no return. Money Smart is a pleasant book to read even though it is 348 pages thick. Kudos to the writer for explaining financial jargons in a simplistic way where most people can understand. The book goes onto Lone Wolf recommendation list. Happy reading.
