Wolf Bargain(WXXB)

Lone Wolf Investor is at 29 Tai Tiong Crescent. I am at Lao Zhong Zhong eating house for the Hgoh Hiang Wu Xiang Xia Bing(wxxb) by Lao Zhong Zhong(Quite a mouthful to say). WXXB laterally mean Five Spice Prawn Fritter. Wu Xiang is a meat roll marinated with five spice wrap in beancurd skin with finely diced chestnut to give it some texture. Prawn fritter is the thicker version of a prawn cracker.

(Sample size amounting to $4.60)

Lao Zhong Zhong Wu Xiang is very well known in that area. I am not too sure if they have any link with Zhong Zhong Wu Xiang Xia Bing at Bt. Timah hawker centre. I guess by having the word Lao in front mean they are the more established authority and the cream de la creme of Five Spice Prawn Fritter. It sure didn’t disappoint. The taste is sublime, the chili dip is slightly on the sweet side, moderately hot. The chili dip has a sprinkle of peanut powder which give it a slightly thicker sauce. It goes very well with the food. The fritter is crispy. Tiny prawns on the fritter are fried till bone dry even the shell of the prawn can be consumed, giving off a satisfying crunch. Wu Xiang is freshly made with a good mix of meat and chestnut. The meat roll is airy. The taste is balance. Doesn’t taste artificial or overly seasoned. Even though all the items are deep fried, I didn’t suffer from heart attack. There is no oily aftertaste.

(Chestnut cake)

(Deep fried Tau Kwa,good colour good taste)

There is always a queue at any hour of the day. Just look at the photo. Has to be the longest queue for my WXXB fix. One of the other highlight has to be the chestnut cake which had become a rare item on the menu. The process of making the chestnut cake is tedious which explains why few shops sell that item now.  I had a piece of deep fried beancurd aka tau kwa and a couple of fish balls. I wish I had more stomach but it was my impromptu snack right after lunch. I just can’t resist a munch. Other items on sale included guan chang(red Chinese sausage) and pi dan(century eggs) is an acquired taste which taste like Foie Gras for lack of a comparable description. My food cost $4.60. Lao Zhong Zhong is definitely worthy of the wait. I am suggesting having it piping hot at the coffee shop after HA 2.0. I am sure you will be laughing away once you try the food. Btw they don’t sell satay. Safety assured.  😁
