Wolf Bargain(Goats and Fishes)

The school holidays is here. Parent must be pulling their hair on how to keep their kid(s) occupied for the rest of March holidays. My wife chanced upon a day tour to Hay Dairy and Qian Hu fish farm organised by the Residents’ Committee. We paid $5 per person for the trip which include transportation both ways. Do check with your RC if they are organising trips to those farms. I find them educational and excellent value for money.

Hay Dairies

Farm tours are quite therapeutic been able to get away from hustle and bustle of city life is a big incentive to make that 1 hr trip, it is probably the closest place any Singaporean can visit a countryside without leaving the country. The educational tour at Hay Dairy cost $15 per person which was fully subsided by the RC. Each person got a bar of goat milk soap and a bottle of goat milk. Children get an art and crafts pack. We got to know all things about the goats. Goats milk is alkaline which is similar to PH level of our body. It is low in lactose and improves bowel system. My son had a blast of a time feeding the goats with alfalfa hay that the farm imports from USA. Goat milk is delicious. My son loves the chocolate goat milk popsicle.

Qian Hu Fish Farm

After lunch we headed off to Qian Hu fish farm. The farm is huge. There are plenty of activities for the kids to do. From long kang fishing. colouring and turtle feeding. Ornamental fish lovers can get their hands on the latest accessories to keep your pet fishes happy. There are some very unique species of fishes and turtles. I admired the fishes swimming gracefully in the tank even though I am not a ornamental fish enthusiast. One surprising find was the live seafood department at Qian Hu. Lobsters from Australia is going at an offer price of $100 bucks for two. Each lobster weighted around 1.2kg. A top Chinese  restaurant would have charge you $200 for an Australia lobster. The farm is located off Lim Chu Kang, there are daily free shuttle bus service to the farm. Both tours took more than 5 hrs, a good day of fun for any kid to exhaust their seemingly endless energy. We as parents look forward to our kid(s) sleeping soundly at night as they count the fishes in their dream. Special thank to RC Kampong Glam, Beach Rd for organising the tours.
