Wolf Bargain(BYD Cafe by 1826)

(BYD Atto 3 sells for less than $150,000)

BYD has become the largest producer of EV in the world, overtaking Tesla recently. Today’s bargain has nothing to do with their EV, although, admittedly, their EVs are selling at very attractive prices. One could get a BYD EV for less than $150,000 including COE. Will anyone go for a meal in a showroom? I will.

BYD launched their showroom in Suntec City only a few months back. The showroom cum café is a new concept in the car trade. Beside showcasing their latest EV offerings, it has a full-service café. I was there to try out their food, in particular the wallet-friendly lunch set. The 4-course lunch set is only $14 per person excluding taxes. It must be the lowest priced 4-course set meal I ever came across anywhere. Patrons get an appetizer, a main, a dessert and a drink. The lunch offering is decent. Other than the small salad portion, the delivery of other items were spot on.

My choice of main was a pan seared chicken in Japanese ginger sauce. The chicken skin is well caramelised, which explains the slightly charred and sweet after-taste. The use of chicken thigh gives the meat a nice tender texture. Diners can choose Linguine with bacon, mushrooms in Parmesan cheese in cream sauce or its vegan version as an alternative.

Two desserts of Chocolate Mousse and Ondeh Ondeh Gateaux are on the menu. The dessert of my choice was Chocolate Mousse. It is great tasting, intense chocolaty goodness with appropriate sweetness makes it a great way to end the meal. The biscuit underneath the gives the chocolate mousse some texture. Overall, at $14 a person, the lunch is an attractive proposition for business meeting. It may not be fine dining but given the reasonable price tag, it is a good upgrade from a meal at a food court. The place is perfect to BYD, Bring Your Date or Darling. The café offers dinner at a promotional price of $20. Do check them out at Suntec City. Special shut out to the staffs for their friendly service.
