Pico Far East had just reported first half profit of HKD 58m, an increase of 138% compare to HKD 24m last year. EPS came in at HKD 4.65c. The result is commendable given the challenges facing mice sector where hosting physical events had become difficult due to lockdown and social distancing. Greater China especially mainland China contribute to the recovery as more events are held in China post covid lockdown. Southeast Asia market continue to be weak due to covid 19 hampering recovery in physical events held.  Greater China now account for over 60 percent in revenue. The management is cautiously optimistic with general recovery from covid 19 but they did warn of recovery been gradual. Recently Fed Chairperson Jerome Powell had indicated interest rate increase might move forward from the previous communicated timeline of 2024 due to better than expected employment numbers and rising inflation. Now the market is expecting interest rate to increase sometime in 2023, about 1.5-2years from now. There is also the fed tapering of QE(quantitative easing which mean buying bond in cash effectively inject cash into the financial systems) for the stock market to content with. The current QE is at 120B a month. The Fed will be doing a reduction of that amount a few months down the road. That act itself is amounting to a rate increase. It is only available after 10.30am. The doughnuts are always freshly made due the amount of doughnuts the coffee shop sell. People are buying them as fast as what the kitchen could chunked out. People are buying in bulk of 10 or 20 doughnuts at one go. The warm doughnut is soft and there is a fine sugar coat on the outer layer of doughnut. Surprisingly the doughnut is not overly sweet. The public tranche is 233x over subscribed (A record for IPO this year) If one did applied for the IPO, you have about 1 in 10 chance of getting 1k-10k shares depending on how many shares you applied.. Most people will be going home empty handed losing their 2 dollars IPO ATM fees which can be use to partially offset the purchase of their luncheon meat for lunch. I was introduced to their Kueh Kueh by my ex colleague Vincent. I had been buying their hand made Ang Ku Kueh for more than a decade since then. 10 years ago there was hardly a crowd. AKK then was known to be “old people food” or “food offering for the gods” I can easily get my AKK within minutes but recently the queue had been extending longer and longer due to the explosion of social media and there is a general trend of people going back to traditional food. I was at the Everton Park branch around 9am and the queue is 15 strong. I decide to ditch the plan. They have another outlet at Bugis Village. The queue is relatively shorter at Bugis.
