The French American Bakery(TFAB) is new to the market. I am probably the first few blogs to mention them through my chanced encounter while cycling along Haji Lane. They are officially opened on 7 August. Located at 49 Haji Lane in the historical district of Kampong Glam. The bakery specialised in French and American inspired pastries and cakes. Croissants, Danishes, Baguettes are the main stay of the bakery. Loafs and Tarts are featured heavily in the shop. Mixed berries and fruit tarts are an eye candy which give the shop the vibrancy and colours. It felt like going into a bakery in Paris when you walk through the door.

The shop is founded by Ms. Siti Aishah and her husband, Mr. Shidiq. Siti had a career with a Michelin star restaurant and was a graduate of the fame Le Cordon Bleu academy. Passion for making pastries run deep in her. I was told some ingredients had to be imported from France to give the pastries the authentic taste. I try out a few items during their soft launch. I had Kouign Amann, a croissants base pastry with caramelised sugar. The pastries is well baked with salted butter and the caramelised sugar give it a balance between sweet and savoury. Next up the chocolate banana walnut loaf. The loaf is soft and tasted almost cake like, it has a good mixture of banana, chocolate and walnut($4.80). The loaf is not loaded with too much sugar which may have drown out the taste of other ingredients. It is a nice pastry to enjoy over a cup of afternoon tea. The baguette($4.50) is my personal favourite. It has a solid crust and a soft core. Most other baguette I try didn’t get the crust or the softness of the core correctly. $4.5 buy you a big loaf. Other recommendation include Red Velvet cake which has an impressive presentation, $6.80 buy you a large slice. Madeleines($2.80 for a set of three) is another of my favourite. TFAB has an impressive offering. The owner has taken great care in their work. Most bake shops are a passing FAB but TFAB is here to stay imho given the quality of their products. Now everyone can enjoy high quality pastries without busting their wallet. Good taste and price can achieved an equilibrium after all.
