Taylor Swift fever will be descending into Singapore. The concert of the decade will be held from the 2nd-9th of March 2024. The event has gotten the Swifties in South East Asia excited. Many fans, young and old from South East Asia will be coming to Singapore for this exclusive event. It is a concert where everyone can be 22 again. A media report cited, Singapore paid an extra USD $2m per show to have an exclusive right to Eras Tour in South East Asia. The deal with AEG, the concert promoter, had the Thai Prime Minister up in arms, staring at Blank Space in Cruel Summer Thailand. He proclaimed his country would have cough out the extra to have it held in Thailand. He boasted the show in Thailand would attract a bigger crowd than Singapore. It was a smart move by the Singapore government. “Well done Singapore” lamented Mr. Srettha. The swiftness of the Singapore-AEG deal caught him by surprise. At least we put one over Thailand where our football team has failed to do so for many years. The score Singapore 6 vs Thailand 0 (6 for the number of concerts held in Singapore). Maybe our Minister could extend an invitation to the Thai PM and his family for a Tay Swift concert in Singapore for the purpose of promoting good diplomatic relationship. I suspect Mr. Srettha might be a swiftie in disguise. To my Thai readers, Thailand has a lot to offer as a holiday destination, even without the Taylor Swift concert, it is still one of my favourite destinations. No Bad Blood please. 🙏

The merits of having a show in Singapore are obvious. Having one concert location is financially beneficial. Given our logistical hub status, equipment and personnel could be deployed swiftly. The world-class infrastructure makes Singapore every concert organiser’s dream. Besides, there is practically no revenue risk to organiser as tickets were sold out within hours. If time permits, doing a 15 shows tour in Singapore wouldn’t be a problem.

The economic spinoff from hosting a Taylor Swift concert is proven. Some commentators in Melbourne estimate the 3 days concert in the city brought in AUD $174m in extra spending during the period and AUD $1.2B in economic benefits. Hotels, F&Bs, tourist attractions and retails are key industries benefiting. There are additional employment created from having extra security personnel, ushers for concert, private bodyguards and staffs for off-concert events.

Taylor Swift’s influence is not only confined to social space. Some Republican Party sympathisers/supporters lashed out unwarranted criticisms on her for trying to influence voters to vote for Biden in the 2024 Presidential Election. One thing for certain, she is more popular than the incumbent. Unofficial numbers put the Swifties in America at 128m. Politics aside, the Eras Tour is the first concert tour to hit $1 billion in revenue. It catapulted Taylor to be among the top celebrities in the world. It was reported her net worth is around $1.1B. She is one of the most influential artists of her generation, breaking new ground in entertainment which led her to be chosen as the TIME PERSON OF THE YEAR for 2023 by the TIME Magazine.

Do remember to shake it off your I knew you were trouble behind. Have some Clean fun during your time in Singapore and good mannerism never go out of Style. This is a friendly message from the I can see you security department.🙃
