Wolf Money(SBS Transit Q3 FY2023 update)

Image
(Credit: SBS Transit) SBS Transit Q3 update shows a 4.7% increase in profit. The numbers were helped by interest income generated from their cash pile. Cash balance went up another 25m to around $370m or $1.18 net cash per share, which made up 47% of their market capitalisation even after accounting for 17m dividend paid in August. October train ridership for DTL,NEL and LRT had reached 97.5% of pre covid. No dividend was declared for current quarter. God bless. Wolf Money(Valuetronics 1H FY2024 result)

Image
Valuetronics blow passed my expectation. Profit went up 42%. Margin expanded and cash had risen to SGD 48c per share which is around 87% of the current market cap. The improvement in earnings was due to what I expected, interest income. Interest income accounts for over 30% of their earning. If there is any imperfection, the revenue is abit light due to slower demand from customers. The company is also proposing an additional interim special dividend of HKD 4c on top of normal dividend HKD 4c. More review at the end of month update. Thank you. God bless. Wolf Bargain(Fujian, Food Gang)

Image
(Love the old school vibes with all those plastic chairs) I had a meal in this restaurant 3 months ago. I am quite positive about the food and I was pretty sure to do a review on this traditional restaurant, but how did it managed to slip my mind? I don’t know. Better late than never. Here is the review, several months later.... Going into the restaurant felt like one was teleported into the era of Lin Qing Xia and Chin Han(Google them if you don’t know who they are). The restaurant has more or less kept its outlook since the 70s. The squeaky door and the less than ideal coolness of the air-conditioning were part of the experience. Take nothing away from the restaurant, the lack of dining refinement was compensated by the delicious food. The restaurant serves very authentic Hokkien food. In my opinion, Teochew and Hokkien food are quite similar. The Hokkien has their Hei Chou and the Teochew has their Wu Xiang. Both have their Yam Paste. The major differences between Hokkien and Teoche...

Wolf Money(CPF Nomination)

Image
(For those reaching CPF withdrawal age and can’t wait to get hold of your CPF fund fast, Maxwell branch is quiet) The purpose of doing this post is to encourage CPF account holders without a nomination to do a nomination, in process saving some money. I was reminded to do my CPF nomination after I went to the CPF board to enquire about Careshield Life. My original nomination was revoked when I got married. I think now is a good time to do some legacy planning since I am probably on half life if I am lucky, it might be good to tie up the loose end on CPF fund. The purpose of CPF nomination is for the CPF board to distribute the money in Ordinary, Special, Medisave, Retirement and CPF Life account excluding property purchased using CPF money, in accordance to the wishes of the deceased CPF account holders to the surviving family members. I was at CPF Maxwell branch to do my nomination in person, it was quite a breeze as CPF officers can do the account holders a favour by coming up ...

(Happy Deepavali to those celebrating the festival) Lone Wolf Fund(LWF) Portfolio as at end of October  1.) Cash 2.) Valuetronics Holdings Limited   3.)  SBS Transit   4.)  Boustead Singapore(BSL) *Stocks are not rank in accordance to capital invested .  *Just for sharing. Not an inducement to buy or sell . Commentary The market is facing the dreadful prospect of having to deal with a 4% risk free yield and a higher borrowing rate in Singapore. It calls into question on the conventional wisdom of having some debt on the book is good. Having a lot of cash in the book are now considered superior. Given the high risk-free rate, a lot of money will be sucked into risk free assets like money market funds, government bonds and other types of hybrid investment close to risk free . That creates a vacuum for capital. If one can get 4% risk free, it makes little sense to invest in a low-yielding investment. Singapore stock market returns average around 6.7% an...

Wolf Money(portfolio update for end Oct 2023) part 1

(Free image credit: Peace Dove ;Pixabay.com) My thoughts and prayers to those families who had lost their loved one in the Palestinian and Israeli conflict. A lasting peace deal between the two is long overdue. It is my hope to see all the big powers showing leadership and chipping in for world peace. May God bless those in their times of need. 🙏 Equity or Debt? Cashare! I chanced upon Howard Marks’s interview with Bloomberg’s David Rubinstein. I find it beneficial to know Marks’s view on the current market situation. He was asked, Is Equity or Debt a better investment currently? Below are a few interesting pointers from Howard Marks. 1.) Return on Investment in debt or credit market is likely to offer better return based on a risk reward basis given the high and longer interest rate narrative by the Fed. 2.) One can get close to equity like returns on debt and credit instruments with the advantage of a higher hierarchy of claims. As an equity holder, you are left with crumbs when a c...
