Wolf Money(PT Astra International Tbk)

Image
First time for Lone Wolf Fund. I did my first direct purchase of an Indonesia stock listed on IDX composite. It comes after the comments made by various stakeholders on our stock market. It seems no one is interested in reviving the Singapore market. It was shocking to hear from Temasek, the Singapore market has nothing to do with them. It calls into question where their priority lies given their role as an implied custodian of the Singapore stock market due to their huge holdings in TLC in SGX. Anyway enough said. (Image credit : The Edge Singapore) Back to Astra International, it is one of the biggest company in Indonesia with businesses across different industries from automotive distribution to coal mining. I had a look at the financial statement. I find it rare to have an Indonesian company in net cash position. My impression of many Indonesian companies tend to have a fair amount of borrowing given the depreciating currency.  (Steady growth at Astra International) The ...

Wolf Review(Tony Tan Keng Yam: My Political Journey by Leslie Koh)

Image
(Contents) I will be very honest. I bought the book, Tony Tan Keng Yam: My Political Journey by Leslie Koh due to Dr. Tony Tan association with OCBC and his uncle, Tan Chin Tuan. For foreign readers unfamiliar with our local politics. Dr.Tan happened to be our ex-president. Most of my readers would have known, OCBC is currently offering $25.60 to take Great Eastern private.  This book has proven to be a popular book, I got the last book on the shelf. Popular bookstore is offering a 20% discount. I can’t be more happy with my “low ball” purchase. The biography starts with Dr. Tan academic achievements. He topped the Singapore Cambridge School Certificate Examination in 1956 and again in 1958. That achievement got him a Singapore State Scholarship. He pursued a PHD at the University of Adelaide in record timing of 2 years instead of the usual 4. His private sector postings came in form of OCBC and Singapore Bus Service prior to his political career that starts in 1979. One unexpecte...

Wolf Bargain(Chow Zan Dessert@Changi Jewel)

Image
Last Sunday, I was at the shop to show my support for my friend, Raphael, for his latest f&b venture of opening a dessert café at Changi Jewel. His shop, Chow Zan Dessert has been a long time coming for him after working tirelessly on the project for close to 2 years. My many congratulations to him. May the cash register rings endlessly. Kaching ! (Tropical inspired feature wall) Let’s get serious about the food. The most important factor in making a delicious dessert is to have fresh ingredients. Desserts are more than just sweet. They are the oasis to our soul. Chow Zan has more than 50 desserts to choose from. They must be one of the only few dessert cafés that offer such a wide assortment. My family are spoiled for choices.  (Extensive menu) (Mango Sago with Jelly Pop and Vanilla Ice-Cream) Desserts are categorised into hot and cold. They will be offering a breakfast menu on a later date. We ordered a Mango Sago with Vanilla Ice-Cream, Orh Nee (Sweet Yam Paste with ...

Wolf Money(Portfolio update for end June 2024)long post

(Image credit: Nippon.com) Falling local population This topic is quite contradicting. On one hand, we have an increase in the overall population, but our local population is stagnating. It is no longer a secret, Singaporeans are no longer reproducing enough to replace ourselves. Although starting a family and having kids is a personal choice. A big part of the decision is financial considerations. With Singaporeans grappling with the high cost of living and high mortgage rates, pro-creation has become a back burner for some couples. Generous financial incentives should be increased to solve the national problem.  1.) Free HDB flat for 3 kids or more The main pain point is having a roof to house everyone. A five-room flat in a nice area costs $1m. Maybe the government can consider taking over the mortgages of those households with 3 or more children. With mortgages taken care of, money could be channelled towards paying for education and other expenses associated with raisin...

Wolf Money(Great Eastern Holdings sold)

Image
I have eliminated my holdings in Great Eastern by doing an open market sale. I am more than happy for the person who bought the shares to have a go on achieving fair value. At least, I didn’t accept OCBC’s offer. I find it quite bothersome to be dealing with OCBC, quibbling over a few dollars. I will be rooting those fighting for higher price. Lone Wolf Fund achieved a return of 41% with dividend included over the course of 3.5 months holding period. A portion of my gains will go to some charity organisations which I support, thanking them for doing God’s work. God bless. Wolf Money(Singapore Savings Bonds July 2024 result)

Image
(Source: MAS) This month result is quite pleasantly surprising. The allocation was much bigger than my estimate. Applications with $59,000 or less get full allocation. With a small group of slightly over 10% getting an additional $500 for $59,500 and above. I got full allocation for this month SSBs, in process bumping up the overall average interest I am getting over the next 10 years. God bless.
