Wolf Bargain(Cafe Lodge@YWCA)

Most people have heard of YMCA, thanks to the 70s viral hit by Village People bearing the same name. I did not realise there was a beautiful half of the Christian Association. Young Women’s Christian Association is located in the prime Dhoby Ghaut area. The building is hidden at the foot of Fort Canning Park, away from the hustle and bustle of the shopping belt.

(Sorry, not today)

When one walk through the door, YWCA gallery showcases the organisation’s history and their mission to empower women through various social initiatives greet the visitors. The timeline gives a glimpse of the great work accomplished by the organisation over the years.

YWCA was setup in 1968 to raise the social status and wellbeing of women in Singapore through promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. The core mission of the organisation includes empowering women through mentorship in entrepreneurship, providing childcare and financial assistance to working mothers in need. The organisation also undertakes community care through community programs like meals on the wheels in support of vulnerable individuals.

YWCA runs a social enterprise which comprises hospitality and F&B. All profit goes directly towards funding programs for their beneficiary. Let’s talk about the location. The building is located at the foot of Fort Canning. There is a lift in the UBS building which allows easy access to the YWCA building located on level 2. A five-minute walk brings you to Cafe Lodge.

(After getting out of the lift, follow the sign)

(YWCA is within 2 mins walk)

(Café Lodge, generous space within the café)

Café Lodge, which is part of YWCA’s social enterprise, serves Western and Chinese cuisine. I am fortunate to be sharing a meal with two of my very formidable investment friends. We had a wonderful time at the café. Investment ideas were coming thick and fast.

The environment of the café is pleasant and vibrant. I like the huge space within the café. We ordered the Teochew Porridge buffet, each costing $20.80++. The prices are shockingly low. It must be the lowest priced buffet anyone can find in Orchard Road precinct.

(Buffet starts at $20.80++ for a weekday lunch)

The variety of the buffet is good. After consuming rich food over the weekend. The light Teochew porridge couldn’t come at a better time, it is comfort food for the soul. The food, generally, comes with a lower amount of sodium, making it suitable for those wanting a healthy meal. I like the Tau Kee, the fried Batang fish and the sweet potato porridge is simply amazing. Some of the food shown were from my dinner buffet(weekend $23.80). All buffet comes with free flow of coffee and tea.

(Meat patties)

(Steamed eggs)

(Braised duck)

(Salted eggs, fish cakes, preserved duck eggs)

(Cakes)

(Delicious fruits, especially the dragon fruit)

Delicious food and social cause go well together. To show my support, I have been a repeat customer on multiple occasions over the past 2 weeks. Please show them some love if you are near the area. Macho man and personnel working in the navy are welcome too. God bless. 🙏
