Wolf Money(Singapore Savings Bonds Nov 2023 review)

Image
(Source : MAS website) The current yield on November SSBs is at its highest for the year. At 3.32% average yield, I am expecting good take up for this month issue. As for next month SSBs, it will be similar in term of yield base on 10 years SGS bond yield. It is definitely good time to be a saver now. SSBs could be use to house an emergency fund with flexibility in withdrawal and good long term return. There is no capital risk but do note there is one month lag for withdrawal. Risk free rates are likely to stay stubbornly high throughout next year that makes SSBs a good safe heaven. Closing date for application falls on 26th Oct 2023@9pm. Wolf Money(Valuetronics)

Image
Where do you look for value in this corrective market? Value(tronics) 😅. Joke aside, this company is indeed cheap on ex-cash basis. Valuetronics business revolves around EMS(electronics manufacturing services). The company has an insanely high 80% of its market capitalisation in cash. Lone Wolf likes companies with a lot of cash, as cash deposit become tailwind for earnings growth with risk free rate staying stubbornly high. On an ex-cash basis one is paying 10c for the whole business roughly 2x p/e. They earned roughly about 5c SGD(HKD 30c) a year. The dividend yield which includes special dividend is around 3.5c approximately 6.6%. They have a share buyback program to acquire up to HKD $250m about SGD $44m equivalent in shares. They are only 1/3 through their buyback. The buyback acts as a backstop for the share price. The HKD $1B net cash also helps reduce the downside risk. Over the past 5 years, the company had went through tough times. From trade wars to covid 19. Revenue suffer

Wolf Review(Musings 3 by George Yeo, co-created by Woon Tai Ho)

Image
(Contents) George Yeo’s Musings 3 was his third and final book exploring his personal life and his views on geopolitical trend of the world. The book took me just over a month to finish as I am keen to know his experience working under our late PM, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew. He had an intimate working relationship with LKY since graduating as a presidential scholar. The late Mr. Lee had in many occasions asked George Yeo to join politics early so he could groom him under his wing as he saw George as a capable person destined for an important role in the government. It was not until at the very end of his service with the SAF when he decided to take a leap of faith into politics. The relationship between the two was one of mutual respect with times of occasional choppy water. I could sense the respect and fear George Yeo had for the late statesman. One such testing time happened during the design of the Esplanade Theatre, where George Yeo was the key man in charge of the project. He got a “lov

Wolf Bargain(COMO Cuisine and COMO Metropolitan Hotel)

Image
I had the pleasure of lunching with a friend at the newly opened COMO Cuisine. The restaurant is housed on the 2nd floor of COMO Orchard, Bideford Road. Readers of my blog know the property was frequently mentioned in my blog due to my ownership of Boustead Singapore share. The property is co-owned by Boustead Projects. Como Cuisine, first outlet, is located at Dempsey. Their Bideford outlet was so new, we were one of the first few diners walking through their door. The interior deco of the restaurant had an industrial and modern feel, giving the patrons a sense of space due its high ceiling and the generous spacing between each table.  (A cafe with an Industrial look)  (The bar looks amazing) First up, an appetiser of Tortilla Chip with Guacamole Dipping Sauce. The essence was in the sauce, which gave a wonderful feedback to the palate with it earthy and slightly sweet natural taste. For the main, I ordered a Grilled Chicken Club Sandwich and a COMO Wagyu Burger was my friend’s choice
