Description of location and surrounding
My brother, cousin and I were looking for a place for some quick makan(eating) after some serious shopping done in Orchard. My cousin had just flown back from Melbourne after a 2 years hiatus due to covid. She wanted a more local meal. My ramen suggestion was shot down instantly, as both my cousin and brother mention Ramen was better in Melbourne. Oh well majority wins. 🤔
The half dimly lit walkway leading up to the Thai eatery is something like a scene out of the movie Bourne Identity. The Shop is located at a cold corner of level 3. After going up 2 levels via escalator, walking past a row of “pleasure shops” where scantily dressed women awaits their customers. I was a bit sceptical when my bro told me there is a very good Thai eatery in Orchard Tower.🤔 . Choon(sure) Boh! I said. My Sherlock Holmes’s investigative mind goes into overdrive. I live near Golden Mile Complex, so I am not entirely convinced there are better authentic Thai Food outside of Golden Mile Complex aka little Thailand. As we approach Thai Tantric Restaurant we can see office workers gathered outside the shop. We are lucky to get a table for 3. The Thai eatery can be quite crowded during lunch hours. The shop is unattractive. It might make do with a spruce up, no amount of Instagram romanticism can turn around the appearance of the shop but the good food more than compensated for the lack of dining experience.
Description of the victims(food)
We ordered Thai Pineapple Rice($8), Clear Tom Yum Soup($12), Paad Thai($7), deep fried small wings($12) and stir fried Kailan with oyster sauce($10). The Thai Pineapple Rice is my favourite. The rice is well cooked with pineapple, chicken bits, cashew nuts and floss. The deep fried mini wings are surprisingly juicy. The wings goes very well with the items we ordered. The clear Tom Yum Soup is quite easy to drink, soup is spicy but at an acceptable level. The Paad Thai is nice but I find it slightly over seasoned. Overall the standard of the Thai food are in good comparison to those in Golden Mile Complex. The food got murdered and the mini wings were dissected, the victims had gone through an honourable death. Overall we did a clean job to clear out the plates. It was an enjoyable meal without blowing up our lunch budget. Some other noticeable must try are Thai Green Curry and Steam Sea Bass with chilli and lime sauce.
