Wolf Bargain(Han’s@Odeon 333)
Han’s cafe needs no introduction. It is one of the most successful local f&b in Singapore. The cafe is famous for their affordable western set meal and pastry. From Fish & Chips to Black Forest Cake. It is amazing how they have kept prices reasonable over the years.
I was quite sad when they decided against renewing their lease at Central Library. I have been going to the Central Library outlet since their opening due to my frequent visits to the library. I can’t be more happy when I knew they have a new outlet just down the street at Odeon 333 a.k.a the former Odeon Tower.
Han’s @Odeon 333 is their latest outlet. Given it is a new outlet, management has increases their presence at the outlet. Mr. Han, the second generation owner of Han’s was on location to greet the customers during their opening period. He is surprisingly very hands-on. He was serving and cooking for the customers at the new outlet. I am delighted to have a 10 mins conversation with him.

Han’s Cafe was established by his parents in the 70s. It was originally set up as a confectionery and slowly evolving initially into a quintessential Hainanese cafe, serving Hainanese favourite like Hainanese Pork Chop and Chicken Rice. Now the cafe serves a mixed of east and west cuisines. Other favourites includes their value for money set breakfasts and lunches. Fish and Chips, Chicken Chop, Hor Fun, Curry Chicken and Pecan Pie which happens to be one of my must-have pastries. They have more than 20 outlets in Singapore currently.
Mr. Han’s passion for cooking shown during our conversation. He went as far as sharing his trade secret of making good beef stew. For people who are unfamiliar with this item on the menu. It was created using Mr. Han’s recipe. The beef is tender and the stew compliments with good old fashioned white rice. A single serving is good for two people. I had a chance to taste an off-menu item. Mr. Han was kind enough to offer me his latest invention, avocado toast. They are delicious and I hope he will introduced it as part of the menu. Avocado toast can cost a bomb in some cafe.
Mr. Han is a very humble man, his passion towards cooking reflects in the quality of Han’s food. It is quite surreal to be talking to the brain behind the cafe that has generated so many of my childhood and taste memories. I am delighted to have a good conversation with him.
