Wolf Bargain(Prada Café)

(The signature Prada green décor)

I have the privilege of experiencing the pre-launch of The Prada Café. Going to The Prada Café, one will naturally expect the price to be elevated given the brand association. The bargain comes from the good service and the beautiful execution of the food.

(Pastries made into work of art)

Prada bought 80% of Milan-based, Pasticceria Marchesi in 2014. The main objective is to preserve the 200 years old Milanese culture. Fast-forward to today, the well-known café from Milan is poised to contribute to the overall experience at Prada. At present, Prada is not the only luxury brand offering f&b options in their boutique. LVMH, Tiffany and Dior have their own cafés. It is a smart move to incorporate a café within the boutique as it acts as a conduit to draw curious diners to the brand’s latest fashion offerings. The café with its Prada green décor gives the patrons a cheerful outlook. Dining in the café gives one a sense of sophistication. It feels like one is attending the Milan Fashion Week.

(I can confirmed, the tulip is real)

Having Prada dining utensils is quite an experience. Plates and coffee cups were made with the highest quality ceramic from Japan. The subtle branding on the wares reminds the diners they are in a special place.

The café stands proudly on its own without playing second fiddle to the brand. It is a relaxing place to enjoy high quality pastries. It is also a place of curiosities where small little details create a conversation. All the pastries were made to impress. They are a work of art. I ordered a lemon cake. The Sicilian Lemon Jelly and Bavarian Cream cover the soft sponge cake($24). The sweetness and lemon citrus were in harmony with each other. The taste is just right without over burdening the palate.

For my choices of savory, both perfectly executed. I ordered Crostone with thinly sliced veal in classic anchovy, capers and tuna dressing($42). The soft veal slices are hard to achieve given veal is an unforgiving meat which tends to be overcooked. The pairing sauce just elevate the taste to another level. It was followed by lobster and prawns with Mary Rose sauce on Toast($42). The lettuce and boiled eggs added texture to the toast. Lobster and prawns were cooked to perfection.

We were given complimentary chocolate and apricot jelly. They are delicious with coffee. Other worthy recommendations include Panettone and Burrata with artichokes and black truffle. I would like to thank Manager, Jason, for his kind introduction and his willingness to go above and beyond to make our dining experience a memorable one.

The café is an amazing place to bring a special guest. Situated on the second floor of the Ion Orchard, the window seats provide an excellent vantage point to enjoy the street scene of Orchard Road. The café is currently operating on an invited basis. The official launch date of the café remains a mystery. One thing that is not a mystery, do expect a long queue when the café goes live.
