For the past few weeks, I have been meeting friends for breakfasts and lunches at Temasek Shophouse. Temasek Shophouse is owned by Temasek Trust which is the philanthropic arm of our sovereign wealth fund. The impact hub gathers change makers in the area of social enterprises and social services. It provides a space for strengthening relationships, fostering collaborations and catalysing solutions for a positive impact on social development.

Upon stepping into the building, I feel special walking into the space. It was all peaceful and quiet in the morning. It is an oasis in the heart of Orchard. The newly renovated building maintains the old charm. What the architect did was to install modern amenities. There is a huge hall, great for hosting events.

Guests can order a coffee from Foreword to enjoy the space at their own time. Tables and chairs are available for people who need to get up to speed with their work. There is a social enterprise gift shop selling handmade craft by MINDS.

What I find interesting is the little garden at the back. The garden gives anyone who needs a breathing space to freshen up their thoughts. The spiral staircase tells the history of the bygone years of the building. It is a beautiful place for photos.

Right at the end of the building, is Bibik Violet, a casual Peranakan restaurant by Violet Oon. The first impression is the bold colour used to create the image of the restaurant. Every part of the restaurant is filled with curiosity. Before I help myself with the food, my camera will have the honour of having the first shot at the beautiful plating.

Prices in general are much easier on the wallet compared to Violet Oon flagship restaurant. There are limited choices for breakfast, but I very much enjoyed the Roti Prata with Fish Curry. The Prata is crispy on the outside and soft in the centre. The Kaya toast set is another fine example of our national breakfast done right. In my opinion, they have one of the best Kaya toast. I would strongly recommend ordering if you are heading down to their restaurant.

Lunch starts at 11am. The restaurant has an extensive lunch menu. I tried their Chicken Nasi Lemak. The good taste continues to grow on me. I was back on other occasions to have lunch with a friend. Ngoh Hiang($9), Tauhu Goreng($8) and Chap Chye($8.5) were on the order list. Tauhu Goreng and Chap Chye stand out among those foods.

I find the restaurant a conducive place for a lunch meeting or just simply an old friends gathering. Prices are affordable. Portions are just right for 2 people. With the nice decor, one is embarking in time travelling to the 14th century, Temasek(Seatown). The food is HO Jia (tasty in Hokkien)without spending much kaCHING ($$$). Enjoy all the delicious food in good health. Moderation is key. God bless. 🙏
